New Project…
Posted by C. Wichmann in Dogs, Veterinarian on August 27, 2010
I am a person who just loves projects… Yesterday I had a one-on-one with Aaron Alaniz at Corestaff Services. He had many ideas and one of them was to blog for other companies or organizations. The problem is just if someone wants me to write about something I don’t have a clue of. So while I was doing dishes this morning (my dishwasher is broken) I got the idea to write a blog more as a journalist than a personal blog… I have a lot to figure out but if you are curious you can check out http://mixednewsdallas.wordpress.com. It is just a presentation so far but I have prepared posts for tomorrow and Sunday. They will be published at 6 am both days… And if you have any suggestions of what to write about, please tell me
!
My dogs are a little bit better. Shelby has done the best improvement so far. Hanna doesn’t like to breath the steam but she is a very good girl. Jasper in moms house is now on medications too. Hopefully noone else starts to cough… Doris is still limping bad on her rear left leg. I give her painkillers but if no improvement has been made on Monday I don’t have any other choice than go and x-ray her… it is really expensive with dogs when they get sick and injured… I just want this to be over with as soon as possible!!!
Sick and injured dogs…

To have dogs are not always the easiest thing on earth… We went to Dog-A-Pooloza in Garland on Saturday and had a great time! Sadly our dogs cought something called Kennel Cough. It is a virus that gets into the upper resperatory system on the dogs. They get fever and they cough. More or less like a flu. You start to see the symptoms in about 4-10 days… The dogs that went to the event are vaccinated towards Kennel Cough but the vaccine does not give 100% protection and definatly not in this case.
Monday night Shelby starts to cough. It sounds like they got something down their throat. We had this virus about three years ago, in Sweden so when I heard her coughing I just knew what was going on… I just knew it but I hoped I was wrong…
Tuesday afternoon I could see on Hanna that she was not feeling well. She had dizzy eyes, tired, just not on top of her self. Later that night she also started coughing. Called the clinic and asked for an appointment in the morning.
Wednesday morning 8am… At Van Zandt Animal Care Center with Shelby. We just confirmed what we thought. Kennelcough is not fun to have since it goes around among the dogs extremly easy. In matters of a day you might have your dog, neighbors dog and a bunch of other dogs with the virus. I told Dr. Casillo that Hanna also was coughing but not in the same way that Shelby was. Shelby had a dry cough and Hanna has a lot of mucus in her cough. Dr. Casillo wanted to have a look at Hanna too so it was just going home and change dogs… Yes, Hanna was a lot worse than Shelby. She needed stronger medication and to breathe thru a nebulizor three times a day. They had a nebulizor in Forney.
The visit at the vet took a lot longer time than I expected! I had a deadline for an embroidery at noon and it was now 11 am. Wohoo… came home and told mom that I had to go to Forney. Ok, we better hurry up, we have to go to Dallas for a boardmeeting tonight… OMG! I had totaly forgot about that boardmeeting! Did the embroidery and off to deliver it. 12:12pm it was delivered… the customer was just happy, didn’t mind me coming those minutes late *puh*. Off to Forney and pick up the Nebulazor for Hanna. There they gave me a chock! They wanted $200 in deposit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HELLO WHAT!?! I was informed that it would cost $50 a week to rent but noone said anything about deposit. I was so upset (and still am). I looked up today what a machine cost just for fun and I found one for $99.00+shipping… Even if I get my money back next week it was so rude!
Came home at 3pm. The day has been running so fast. In my head it was around 1pm. All the dogs had to be vaccinated before heading to Dallas. Mom helped me mix the vaccines and then it just went smoothly. First try with Hanna in the Nebulazor went actually well. It made her a bit dizzy but it was ok. The machine makes some noise but once she was used to it didn’t bother her…
Half an hour late we went in to Dallas for the boardmeeting. Finally at 10:20 pm we were home. Then I had to organize the dogs and medicine for the night and finally I got to bed
This morning everything just started over again… dogs out, dogs in medicine, Hanna breath thru the Nebulizor. Then I had to head off to Dallas again. I had a one-on-one with Aaron Alaniz with Corestaff. It was such a great one-on-one
He had so many ideas and things that I need to think more of and get more ideas of. I left Dallas with a big smile on my face
Fimally back home it was to take in some dogs, out some dogs, medicate and fix again. This feels like a never ending story… When I let the dalmatianpuppies out Doris was limping really bad on her left rear leg… SOMEONE HELP! Isn’t it enough with coughing dogs, does she needs to be injured too? This afternoon Jaspar, in moms house also started coughing… so I guess we will be isolated here for a while. Well not us but all the dogs!!!
If you want more information about Kennelcough you can check out www.kennelcoughindogs.com . I will update tomorrow with more information of how things are going…
Class, Mowing and Vet
Posted by C. Wichmann in The Farm, Veterinarian on July 22, 2010
After the ending of yesterday I actually woke up with a smile on my face. I slept really well!
Went to class with Shannon and she is doing it good. She doesn’t really get why she is so good but she thinks it is fun when I prais her! Mom will come along next week as a distraction! Have to practise everything until the “comback” next week. Varjeanne who has the classes thinks that Shannon has good movements! I hope that the judge agree!
Came home and played som farming with my self… that means that I had to mowe some grass… Nice to have a tractor with cover (or what you call it) so I am sitting in aircondition all the time
I am far away from done but at least started! Mom called me up and asked if I wanted to go to Wills Point with her to get rice to Emely. She has diarrhea again. Since this was the third time in six weeks I thougth that a visit to the vet would actually be better now. Mom called them and got an appointment in an hour. We brougt Hanna along so she got her rabies shot. Emely has to wait with hers since she is not on top right now!
Dr. Wingo thinks it might be food related. She will now go on a special diet to see how that goes and then we have to get it from there so we have to wait a while to get the answer on what is wrong with her…
They are both a bit underweight but that we knew. None of them wants to eat… Both of the girls was really good, I am so proud of them!
Tomorrow will be a fun day! Dumle and Hanna will go to White Rock Lake Dogpark! I hope they don’t get sick in the car and that they get along together… I don’t tink they have met… wehooo… interesting!
